We are pleased to inform you that production of the movie and rewards have been successfully completed, and we already sent the reward out at the end of last week!
*Contents of rewards vary depending on pledged tiers.
■Japan domestic shipments are sent via Yu-Pack, and international shipments are via EMS except for some regions.
(Shipment is delayed for backers who pledged to figures of Call, Lucy, and Deluxe due to the delay of completion. We plan to send all rewards including figures by mid-August. Thank you so much for your understanding and patience! Also for those who have not inform us shipping info yet, we will make shipments as we hear from them.)
Some backers in Japan might have received the reward already.

Hi everyone!
Can’t believe it’s already July! All rewards will be ready soon!
We plan to start shipping rewards around the end of July sequentially as they set for shipment. We are very excited that we can finally deliver rewards to our backers!
Today, we would like to introduce Chiaki Imanaka who took an important role in the production as the 3D character designer and the charactor look development director!
- We asked some questions about how she made the character designs! -
Q. There are many unique characters appear in Red Ash. Can you tell us about some points you considered carefully for each character in the modeling stage?
A. The original 2D character designs were drawn in deformed style, so I tried to keep that deformation in the 3D models too. Also from the stage of the modeling, I kept the animation production process in mind and carefully created models so that it’d be easier for animators to put motions to the characters in the most attractive way.
Beck: He is young but a very determined character. So I tried to show his straightforwardness and sincerity in his facial expressions.
Call: She is an impulsive character and has a lot of facial expressions in the movie. I wanted to her to be energetic, cute and sexy. I made her bodyline carefully so that she will be attractive and that tight clothes look good on her.
Tyger: He is an elder character who is kind and gentle. But also he can be a bit timid. So I intended his model to be capable of making smiles, which well reflect his characteristic.
Stripe: He is a middle-aged man and an enemy. So I tried to give him a bad, yet comical impression.
Q. Who is your favorite character?
A. Definitely Call! The original design is really cute and she has many facial expressions, so I enjoyed the creation. She is cheerful and fearless, and it was very fun to animate her.
Q. Are there any points you want audience to look closely?
A. I mainly directed characters’ facial expressions and intentionally gave illustration-like impression to them. So I hope audience will enjoy the animation that almost looks like illustrations are animated while it is a full-3D animation. Red Ash is a illustration style CGI animation with no contour line and is different from 2D animation. So we had many discussions to decide the best look of the final outcome. We particularly created details of the way teeth and highlights in eyes are shown. Sometimes we only show upper teeth or lower teeth, or no teeth when his/her mouth is open wide. Also we can create an intense/serious facial expression by adding teeth. Same goes with highlights in eyes. We chose different size of highlights scene by scene. Using bigger highlights creates shining eyes and smaller highlights creates tension of the character. These direction and description are adopted from production of traditional 2D animation.
When you watch “Red Ash –Magicicada-”, please pay attention to carefully created facial expression of the characters too!

On the contrary to Call, the team couldn’t find the right voice for Tyger among the names we received. After deep deliberation, we decided – as the decision of the creative team – to go with the voice cast of Tyger, Rikumi Moriwaki, whom we had chosen for “animetamago”. We are sincerely sorry that we could not reflect the result of the vote. We hope you will enjoy his voice as it’s very much TYGER!
Receiving the requests directly from fans was really a new challenge for us, and we found it very surprising and full of new discoveries.

● Screen Music of Red Ash
Nakako a.k.a Koji Nakamura creates the screen music of Red Ash!
Profile:
Koji Nakamura is a Japanese singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, producer and remixer.
Koji Nakamura formed a rock band “SUPERCAR” in 1995. After the breakup of the band in 2005, Namamura has started his solo career and engaged in many different music genres which led to build an unshakable position as a melody maker in Japanese music scene.
His borderless collaborations expand to TVcommercials, films and even to the world of arts.
Koji Nakamura also collaborated with many artists as a remixer and contributed to various musical projects. Now his activity focuses on his solo project “Koji Nakamura" and the ambient project "Nyantora".
* We are sorry to announce that Mr. Rashad, with whom we planned to collaborate on tie-up music, cannot participate because of a conflict in the schedule.

We officially closed accepting requests (from backers who pledged $94 or more) for T-shirt size and name for the end credit on 30th of April. (This was for those who had not answered the survey.)

Through the crowd-funding campaign we held in 2015 summer, we could raise about $79,764 for the production of the animation. We are grateful for all your supports!!
After many meetings and long, deep considerations, now we finally have a full structure of total 120 min movie!
It can be one feature film or divided into 6 episodes for TV series.
And the Episode 1 ＜Day of the Locusts＞, the short movie that we will deliver to you, has grown to more than 20 min of worth watching story!
To realize this short movie, we consider applying for the young animator training program by Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Agency for Cultural Affairs Young Animator Training Program 2016
There will be a big advantage if we are accepted in the program.
We will be able to take more time and money on training of young 3D animators in this program.
We believe and hope that our attempt to get this grant will be happily supported by all of you!!
However, there are a few conditions with this attempt;
1) We might not be accepted in the program. This would be a great disappointment to us all.
2) There will be a special screening in Japan held by Agency for Cultural Affairs in March 2017.
3) Details won’t be confirmed until the next year, so we cannot guarantee what could or could not happen at the moment.
※We set the deadline on April 15th as it is the day the application for the program starts.
We will report you whether we will apply for the program or not, and what opinions we receive.

Of course “locust” is often used in the same meaning as “cicada.”
The title gives a feeling that something is gonna happen. Does “the locusts” imply “magicicada”? Or is it something totally different?
Wait until you watch the animation to find out!

We have exciting news today!
Finally a name of Tyger’s weapon has been decided after proposals from the backer who pledged for the naming right and the director’s deep consideration!
Name of weapon：the Atocha
Director’s comment： I chose “the Atocha” from among several names that the backer proposed to us. Origin of the name is Nuestra Señora de Atocha, a Spanish galleon ship, which sank into the sea while carrying enormous treasure. It is suitable as his weapon’s nickname with its episode that excites man's spirit of treasure hunting and with the nice way it sounds. I’m glad that the backer proposed this name.
